The Aftermath of Parents' Day 2008

Dear E6,

I am not even sure how many of you will be able to read this as I am quite positive, for most of you, the computer might be one of the many benefits that your parents will be taking away from you for a while. In addition, I think for most of you, this has not been a very pleasant day at all.

However, let's us all face the facts- the reality is right in front of us & we need to do something about it... NOW. It has been a fairly negative day for us teachers as well, and primarily as the form teacher of a class that I love just so much, I realised even more today, whether you all like it or not, none of us in E6 are motivated. None of us are actually trying harder than ever. Yes, I am sure most of you, if not all, did so before the MYE. But, was it a little too late? Are we going to be able to use the June holidays fruitfully? Aren't we all just tired of dreading everytime our parents look at our report books? Aren't we all just annoyed that we stress ourselves up just at the very last minute only to sow no fruits of labour at all! When is this all going to end, can we all ask ourselves that? Can we have a Parents' Day where we can walk out of the hall beaming from ear to ear, proud that we not only did our best, tried very hard, but that we were consistent 100% of the way, and now we actually managed to ace the exams.

I am angry with those who did not turn up without a valid reason. You know who you are & I will be coming your way soon cos you yourself don't realise that you are 'digging your own grave'. Do not cry over spilt milk when reality hits you harder than ever at the end of the year. Please.

I am shocked at some of you who seemed not to care when your ever-concerned parents were trying to talk to you, or those who were very rude. *hmph* I really have nothing much to say about that. It shocks me that even up till this stage, even after looking at your results, some of you were arguing for a handphone, soccer ball etc.

For those of you who teared, cried... it is NOT the end of the world pls. Life goes on. Let's try to understand where your parents are coming from. All of you seem to have very caring and concerned parents who seemed to have given you everything that you have wanted, every step of the way. However, unfortunately, maybe some of us have abused these benefits. Can we pls smile, smell the fresh air & realise hey... life goes on, it waits for no one, & you jolly well be at the front of the pack.

Determination can win over ability any day; you just have to want it bad enough & when you do, the word impossible becomes nothing but a myth, your dreams become a reality and only then, you have achieved a life worth living, a life that gives hope to others; a life that shows that the possibilities are endless.

Let's forget about any class outing this June holidays alright? If anything, let me know a day all of you will be back for extra classes & I will order pizza... we can eat, relax & head back to work again. Remember... All who go through the difficult situations will learn the art of finding solutions... I really believe that if we work TOGETHER, we can accomplish great things.

Hey 3e6 syafiq here,
on the previous monday, Mrs Dolly Ong came to our class and talked to us about how people think of us. This was in response of the 1st letter written to her by me, jovina and huijuan and also a second letter written by me.
We all must be grateful to her as she cancelled her appointments to talk to us. Okay the contents of both letters was about Mr Chong and how people see us as and also what happened during sports day. I also wrote a third letter that was signed by the whole of 3e6 earlier.
The content of the letter was mainly how we felt after she talked to us and how we are grataful to her.
Today at 3.30, i met her to give her the letter personally as i felt that it was the least owed her.
We had a small conversation and i believe she wanted me to tell all of you that we should not be so sensitive as some of the how we a treated is to make us concentrate on our studies. She also highlighted on why our class always have to go out of the class during lessons to take books from the locker. She really wants us to prove to everyone that looks down on us that they are wrong. Since this matter has been resolved, let us moove on and get good grades for the Mid-Year Examinations. Let us make our WHOLE class top 150 in level. We can do it if we try. help your friends out. Study hard and never give up.

Dear Elvina, Rebecca, Syafiq, Samuel & Allen....

THANK YOU for doing 3E6 proud today. I still recall how the 5 of you were prett reluctant to take part initially. Syafiq & Rebecca were very forthcoming eventually, and I was heartened to note how you were trying your very best to be gd role models for the class. Then Elvina... thank you for saying yes & being so gracious even when you were 'arrowed'. Same goes for you Samuel. You were coerced & although you were teased by some of your friends, you never faltered. You stood by the class & together with the other 4, you really did us proud. Although you got reprimanded for missing a little bit of your CCA to go for teh auditions, you did everything with a smile :) As for the man who volunteered, I have to admit I was so surprised- may I add, pleasantly surprised. If only everyone could be so gung-ho like you! Even though you were semi-topless, you took on your role with such optimism & good spirit that it made me so proud to have a whacky nutty like you in 3E6 :)

So to the of you... I don't think I did justice this afternoon by thanking & congratulating on you all on the bus. I am VERY proud that you strutted your stuff, worked very well together & co-ordinated all that you needed to do with such accuracy.

As for the rest of 3E6, let me also add that although I was not with you all the time during sports day, I saw signs of the yellow banner being waved up & down as you were cheering some of your friends on. Well done :) Let's aim higher, go further.

I hope you guys can c how you are really EXTREMELY capable. It just takes a little effort & team work. I shall not say "we will get there"... because... WE ARE GETTING THERE!! The journey has started already, esp since after sports day & today's fashion show. Oh.. n also the newspaper collection drive! :)

5th para: Conclusion- whether the source in the qn asked is reliable / unreliable & why you say its reliable / unrealible.

Remember, in your cross-referencing (2nd-4th para), must have at least 1 source that challenges & 2 that support OR 1 source that supports & 2 that challenge.

I am glad that some of you remember my advice at the beginning of the term. Revise how to answer POLITICAL CARTOONS & I was very happy to see that yest some of you had printed out some of the cartoons from google & were asking me how / what the cartoon meant. Dear 3e6,

Starting from this coming wednesday(2nd April) there will be a COMPULSORY group study.
This is an initiative to help us prepare for the coming Mid-Year Examinations. Please be ready for it and so not take it as a burden. This will make our results better. This group study program will take place EVERY wednesday atleast until the MYE. Thanks for acknowledging this. Those with CCAs will be excused. I just want to say that I have actually been quite disheartened by some happenings in class lately. Hearing how some of you do not want to be part of the class comm as the class doesn't seem to want to co-operate. I find it puzzling as these very same people seem to be very popular amongst friends in class, so why is it that when it comes to serious, class matters, it is suddenly so hard to get your friends to co-operate?

e6... really... what's happening... must everything go your way all the time? The moment it doesn't are you going to show attitude & start bad-mouthing people behind their backs? Isn't it nice that some people are trying, even if it is too much? At least some people even bother right? I want everyone to care, bother, show concern, attention & EFFORT. Why is that so hard? Isn't this class supposed to be a part & not apart.

As such, the same way I have had a chat with the 4 monitors 1st before announcing their names, the same way I will speak to the rest of the new class comm members before announcing their names out to anyone.

My Reflection- finally... Term 1

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking hard & long... having a great, working co-ordinated & effective class commitee is HIGHLY crucial. I feel this even more simply cos I only see all of you 5 periods in a week, so all the more I need to have a great communication channel / bridge that transmits all my messages smoothly to the rest in class.

Honestly, I think only 20% of our current committee is effective, only 20% of them are actually working, doing their part... without me forcing or pushing them.

Do I need to remind people to bring the newspapers to the recycling bin every week? NO.

Does 3E6 need to have class leaders who are consistenly picked out for various offences? NO.

Does 3E6 need a whole bunch of students who skip classes / ssp together? NO.

Does 3E6 only need leaders who will do stuff at the beginning of the term & then sit on their laurels & don't do anything else, until I ask / tell? NO.

Didn't we agree at the last comm mtg that the class deco, esp for the back board, needs to be changed by end of the term? Has anything been done? NO.

Do the same people have to be persistent in their attire probs + not keep handing up class fund money? NO.

Do we have lie to our parents & say we are out doing class / school stuff, when we are actually out with our friends doing something else totally different? NO.

Do we want to be left behind- mentally, socially, academically? NO.

I have a vision, a goal for the class. At the moment, many people in class are improving. However, to move even more forward, I need an EFFECTIVE, CONSISTENT, MOTIVATED class comm. One that is spear-headed by leaders who do not need me to come & remind & tell them what to do. One that does not need some other tr to come in & then tell you when to clean the class or where to sit. I need class leaders who have initiative, who say they want to do something for the class, and actually do something about it.

We will have a re-election on Mon (17/3). You may choose to retain any of the current class comm members, or look around & see... who will / can you look up to? Who can you trust to be there for your class 24/7? Who is not afraid of standing up for the class or is unwilling to do class stuff (e.g. the bbq) just because their "clique" is not going to be there? Who are those who actually see 3E6 as ONE- where we are all a part, and not apart.

I hope together we can all move forward. We need to. Before it is too late.

This time, for the re-elections, it is subject to mine & Ms Lian's approval. We will also speak to those elected & make it clear to them what is expected, before anything is announced & confirmed.

Pls stay back for 15 mins on Mon (17/3) after sch. We will have our 1st Term 2 class meeting. EVERYONE has to stay back.

Detention for all those who skipped Amaths ssp will be on Tues (18/3).

Can we start moving FORWARD? Can we stop digressing & going in the wrong direction?

Its been one month.

One month of ups and downs and sideways and diagonal ways.
Yeah, we've been thru a lot.
But most importantly, we've been through it together.
Hell yeah.

At first,
I never imagined myself to be happy being in 3E6.
Seriously! Well, simply because I was not happy taking
combined science and how I (and some of us) were letting
what other people say abt how combined science was a bad thing
get to us. You knw what, WHO GIVES A DAMN.

Some of us have cliques. Whether thats a good thing or not, I'll
let you decide. But you knw what, there are bound to be cliques
in every class! I have a clique but you knw, Im mixing around
with a lot of other people and I can say that mixing around did
help me get to knw each and every one of you guys much better!

By the mid of Term One, I declared to myself, I LOVE 3E6'08.
Hell yeah. I never thought I could meet such great people.
People who add colour to my lives. People who make me happy.
People who make me wanna go to sch everyday just to be with them.

it hasnt been a good term,in fact,a bad one i wld say.with us pissing teachers off,making them cry and having them complaining to miss kaur every now and then.shouldnt we start reflecting on what we have done?think.what have we done to cause all these?everyone has a part to play to let the class be a wonderful class!ask urself,have u played your part?or are you just staying in ur comfort zone and ignoring the world that revoles around u.i have tried my best to keep myself out of trouble and to get results that i aim for.all this sure comes with a price.but the product is sure a worthy one.seeing miss kaur's face today after mr chong left.she was totally disappointed with the class.her expression says it all.dun anyone think she deserve to hav a better class?we hav alr disappointed our camp instructor and now miss kaur,how many more are we going to disappoint?i really do hope that we can all change our attitude.we are no diff frm other classes physically,so why shld we be mentally?i hope that in term2,there will be close to zero disciplinary cases and that everyone will be able to score well for all tests and exams.i have faith in my class.and i strongly believe that,who we are today may not be who we are tomorrow for we decide who we want to be.3e6 all the way!

Why is it that some of you get so scared when 1-2 certain trs are entering our classroom to check, then you start setting everything right? What does it say when our class seating arrangement is changed? What does it say abt my role as a form tr of 3E6?

Yeah.. time really flies. Darn it, mid year exams are approaching so soon; fat hope for having fun all the way throughout the one week holidays. This term has been quite fun, joking around, having fun and getting caught for attire. And all those birthdays when we get to pillar people! HAHA. Many of the teachers are pretty good too, which makes school better. I feel like I'm getting to like my class more. Well, I do hope that I can pay more attention in class and be more serious about studies now onwards. Screwing up in A maths and Chinese really scares me. ok..reflecting on 2008's term 1..hmm.i think we r very united as a class now.lyk wat ms kaur say.its lyk..nearly half a yr gone.hais..time flies so fast.i think everyone is working ver very hard
its lyk everyone is studyin..even jovina! [top for geog test1] so proud of her! ok.. it been super fun.making new best frenz lyk elvina,nisa,chingmay,desmond,allen,alvin n many many more.

i hope to do well for my other subjects in sch..i oso hope the klass will do well as well.one for all n all for one.we will stick together for the nxt 2 yrs?! so we shall b the most united klass.oh. i wann to thank ms kaur n the other subject teachers for nort givin up 3e6'o8! thanks... love ya ppl!

Reflection of term 1

I think that this is a very wonderful term with many new friends and to be able to improve on my exam marks. i hope that there will be more improvement in my exam marks and to get a better relationship with my classmates

First time blogging in this class blog, hope my post won't pollute our blog =x Term 1 was an enjoyable term for me, scored quite a few distinctions, but failed quite a few subs too xP Quite stress with studies, cannot understand wat the a maths teacher is sayin.. Relationship with classmates stil nt bad, mani ups and downs but overall it was fun!

E6... Let me just state a couple of things... TAKE NOTE, TAKE ACTION, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM:

1) I do NOT want to see over 20 students from our class sitting outside the general office doing detention. Have you realised how that would look? ALL CE HW better be in by tom. The last thing we need is to accumulate more demerit points. Surely we have wiser things to do with our time.

2) Our class CIP Project: Rachel Lam/Lim you have to call the org this wkend. I suggest Fri afternoon or Sat morning, as they will probably be closed otherwise. Go find out what we can do for them which would not render us touching the animals, esp dogs, per say. Thank you. I want to hear from the both of you by SUNDAY (2/3/08).

3) I will be mtg the Welfare Officers to discuss the bbq. Pls give them feedback & suggestions as to what you would like for your bbq. Some sensible & interesting suggestions would be great!

4) Alvin & Jovon, pls take note of what you guys are supposed to do for the upcoming Sports Day. We do not want to be left behind ok. Thanks.

5) Pls remind Zhisheng & Desmond to pls clear the newspapers tom. Also ensure that the corner area is neat & clean.

6) I hope the class has been ensuring that the class is clean & neat at all times. It will be checked after sch tom. Thien Sean, Alcina & Shen Hao, pls remember to ask everyone to clean up & ensure NO books are anywhere in class- under their desks, class cupboard & floor (ESPECIALLY!).

Hope your Hist paper was a blast today. All the best for your A Maths tom. Remember what has been mentioned above.
